What is The traveling silversmitH?

A travel blog, silversmithing behind-the-scenes, & everything in-between

A big fun fact about Meghan Elisabeth Art (MEA): I run this business on the road! I am currently living full-time out of a truck camper with my partner and two dogs, traveling the natural sites of North America. The Traveling Silversmith was born as a way for me to share my full-time travels without overwhelming those who follow MEA just for the jewelry! The focus here is more on the traveling and behind the scenes of silversmithing & running a business on the road, rather than the jewelry made.

The Traveling Silversmith is a bi-monthly newsletter on Substack where you’ll see some beautiful places, hear the stories of our travels, and read my thoughts of running a business on the road, life, and everything in-between.

New to Substack? Read on — I’ll get into the details of reading and subscribing on Substack below!

What is substack?

A blog and podcast platform for independent creators to connect with their audiences through subscriptions.

A lot of the content on Substack is free, but it is a similar platform to Patreon where creators can offer content at various subscription levels. Not all creators on Substack use every capability of the platform — for example I don’t currently use the podcast option!

The best part of Substack? You can find new creators within the platform and app, and all of the content you subscribe to is all in one place.

What does it mean to subscribe?

To subscribe to a Substack blog means you’ll be notified via email and the Substack app when a new letter has been published! You don’t have to subscribe to a writer to read their free content — just click “No thanks” to subscribing the first time you view a creator’s page, and read what you’d like 🌟

How to subscribe

Skipped the subscribe the first time around? You can find a subscribe button in the top right corner of the creator’s Substack page. A lot of writers will also place subscribe links throughout or at the bottom of their letters!

You can subscribe to The Traveling Silversmith here.

Do I have to pay to read?

Nope! The Traveling Silversmith is free to read.

The Traveling Silversmith bi-monthly letters will always be free on Substack, but I do offer additional perks for paid subscribers!

Paid subscriptions:

Every tier of paid subscriptions for The Traveling Silversmith include the same additional perks to the bi-monthly letters! Paid subscribers receive:

🌵 10% off forever discount code for Meghan Elisabeth Art

🌵 A handwritten note + postcard mailed to you from wherever we are! Mailed when you subscribe and annually thereafter

🌵 Surprise piece of turquoise jewelry made on the road (available for pay what you want subscriptions over $200!)

Paid subscriptions are available at tiered levels:

  • Monthly: $5/month

  • Annual: $50/year ($4.17/month; 17% cheaper than subscribing monthly)

  • Pay what you want: any amount over $50!

    • 🌵 BONUS PERK: Payments of $200+ receive a surprise piece of turquoise jewelry made on the road

If you’re browsing creators on Substack and a writer has a paid subscription option, usually they also have content that is free to read — so don’t be deterred by a prompt to join a paid subscription plan! You can always click the “None” subscription tier and read the free content.

How to upgrade to paid

If you have already subscribed to a Substack page, you’ll find the upgrade button in the top right corner of the creator’s page.

Substack will remember whether you have subscribed to a creator’s page, so if you have not subscribed to a creator in the past you’ll see a subscribe button in the top right corner but if you have previously subscribed you’ll find a pledge or upgrade button in the top right corner!

A lot of writers will also place subscribe links throughout or at the bottom of their letters.
